The Ohio State Buckeyes are nearly halfway through the regular season, but that doesn't mean they've slowed down on the recruiting trail. In fact, the Ohio State's 2017 class already ranks No. 1 nationally with 17 commitments. Here are all the latest Ohio State recruiting news:
5-star LB intrigued by Buckeyes
Five-star linebacker Baron Browning (Kennedale, TX) took his official visit to Michigan last weekend, and spoke with 247sports' Ryan Bartow about the other schools recruiting him - and says that Ohio State is still very high on his list:
“It’s almost like just being around them you can tell they genuinely care about their players," he said. "I’m not saying the other schools don’t either, but I’d say I have a better feel of it. I got a feel of it at Michigan, Ohio State, Texas, I’d say those schools because I stayed the night and hung around the players. It gave me a deeper in look. So really get to learn some things and ask questions from the players and get their perspective on some things. All the way from coach (Urban) Meyer it’s a trickledown effect. You can really tell. You can just feel it. You can tell when somebody is just feeding you I guess some jive or something. They keep it real there. They tell you straight forward they’re not going to give you nothing from day one so that intrigued me because that’s how I was raised, never look for a handout.”
Texas is currently the favorite to land Browning, but Baylor and Ohio State are also right in the mix. The 6'3", 230-pounder is ranked as the No. 2 outside linebacker and No. 9 overall prospect in the country.
Top 2019 prospect sets visit date
Four-star DT Jacob Lacey (Bowling Green, KY) is one of the top prospects in the 2017 recruiting class, and he has Ohio State right at the top of his list. He plans to make his first visit this weekend when the Buckeyes face Indiana:
"I can't wait to see an OSU game live for the first time," he said. "I'm looking forward to seeing Coach Johnson again and being able to experience a game at Ohio State. I'm very excited to see how the coaches prepare and work through the game, as well as how the players do. I know the atmosphere will be amazing. I can't wait."
Lacey also holds offers from Cincinnati, Kentucky, Louisville, Notre Dame and Tennessee. The 6'2", 290-pounder is ranked as the No. 4 defensive tackle and No. 37 overall prospect in the 2019 class by 247sports.
