In an interview with the Cleveland Plain-Dealer this week, former Ohio State President Gordon Gee stunned many in the media when he offered the following hindsight on the scandal that shook things up at Ohio State last year.
"I think everyone won. The university is doing very well. I believe we have the best football coach in the country in Urban Meyer. So from every perspective it's one of those unusual stories."
Gee certainly won, scoring a $5.8 million retirement package with his departure. However, other parties involved certainly feel a different perspective.
After Terrelle Pryor was forced to enter the NFL's supplemental draft in 2011, he apologized to Coach Jim Tressel who was forced to resign. "I regret the fact that you're not there any more and I regret the fact that I'm not there any more," Pryor said.
Gee went on to have the following comments about Tressel, who has since accepted a new role as the president of Youngstown State University.
"I think Jim Tressel is a winner. I think Jim went through the refiner's fire and came out the other end not only intact but I think gracefully and he managed a very difficult situation."
Gee also seemed to forget the effect that the scandal had on the first team after the scandal - the team that went a perfect 12-0, but had no shot at the BCS title because of the sanctions imposed.
Gee is currently serving as president at West Virginia University.
