The Ohio State Buckeyes 2015 spring practice session is officially in the books’ after the completion of Saturday’s annual spring game. Buckeyes fans set a spring game attendance record by packing 99,391 into Ohio Stadium to watch the Gray Team nip the Scarlet Team 17-14. However, there a still some questions facing the Buckeyes after spring practice. What does head coach Urban Meyer and his staff have to figure out before the season starts in five months?
1) Who will start at quarterback?
Questions remain about whether two-time Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year Braxton Miller will be back or will transfer, but he and last year's starter J.T. Barrett sat out of spring practice with injuries. That left Cardale Jones, who guided the Buckeyes through the College Football Playoff, with all of the reps, and he made Urban Meyer's decision even harder by throwing for over 300 yards in the spring game.
This dilemma may not be solved until the midway point of the season, but it's not a bad one to have.
2) Can Ohio State find a defensive tackle they can rely on?
Michael Bennett, last year's star in the middle of the defense, is preparing for the NFL Draft, leaving Adolphus Washington as the only returning DT with notable experience. The Buckeyes have great linebackers and defensive ends that should allow Ohio State to ease in some of their young defensive tackles, but there's a reason Urban Meyer is "very disappointed” with the group.
3) Can Corey Smith replace Devin Smith?
Devin Smith was an elite deep threat for the Buckeyes last year, and they think they've found a replacement for him in Corey Smith. He posted six catches for an eye-popping 174 yards and two touchdowns in the spring game, transitioning impressive catches into huge plays with smart route running and pure explosiveness. Wide receiver is Ohio State's weakest position, but Corey Smith is looking like someone who can become an impact player.
