Senior running back Carlos Hyde has been dismissed from the Buckeyes football program by head coach Urban Meyer following an incident early Saturday morning at a Columbus dance club. According to The Columbus Dispatch, who first broke the news of Hyde's dismissal, Hyde has been named a person of interest in an assault against a female over the weekend.
According to a police report obtained by ElevenWarriors.com, the incident took place shortly before 2 a.m. at "Sugar Bar 2," on Front Street in Columbus:
"Victim stated on listed date and time at the listed location she was assaulted by the described suspect. Victim stated she does not know the suspect but stated she could identify him."-Columbus Police report
Hyde rushed for 970 yards and 17 touchdowns during Ohio States' 12-0 season last year, and he and quarterback Braxton Miller figured to be the key parts of the Buckeyes' offense this year.
Meyer has a very strict no-tolerance policy regarding violence against women. Last offseason senior linebacker Strom Klein was dismissed immediately after being accused of having a physical altercation with a former girlfriend. He was allowed back on the team when the charges were dismissed.
Junior cornerback Bradley Roby was also arrested related to a separate incident in Bloomington, Ind. According to The Dispatch, Roby refused to leave a bar when asked and had to be controlled by bouncers before being arrested. He is facing charges of battery.
The Buckeyes had an emergency full-team meeting this morning, which Hyde was apparently not at. An Ohio State spokesman has said that an announcement will be made later in the day.
