Ohio State Buckeyes starting quarterback JT Barrett, who passed for 300 yards and three scores in Saturday's monumental 49-37 road win over the Michigan State Spartans, has been named Athlon Sports' national player and freshman of the week.
Barrett once again played beyond his years in East Lansing, completing 16-of-26 passes along with not throwing an interception against a ball-hawking Spartans defense. He amassed 386 of the Ohio State Buckeyes' 568 yards of total offense.
While that number is eye-popping in its own right, the fact that the first-year underclassman did it in prime time in a hostile environment against one of the nation's top defenses vaults his work on Saturday from impressive to amazing.
Barrett was named one of the 16 semifinalists for the Davey O' Brien National Quarterback Award last week - an absolute for a signal caller who was only pressed into action due to Braxton Miller's season-ending injury.
Regardless, Barrett has started to carve his own legacy in Columbus as Miller's replacement, promising both a bright future for the program and a mesmerizing present.
