Braxton Miller may very well come in and take over in admirable fashion at the start of the 2015 college football season, but the Ohio State Buckeyes are, without a doubt, first-year underclassman JT Barrett's team for the remainder of 2014.
“We’re all in it with him,” Ohio State wide receiver Evan Spencer said, via SI.com. “We really hoped for him to do as well can he can, but the success he’s having so far this year, I guess it’s a little bit of a bonus, if that makes sense.”
Miller was declared the team's starter for 2015 weeks ago by Urban Meyers and the Buckeyes' coaching staff, but the young Barrett isn't letting that faze him in the least.
"Definitely don’t think about it,” Barrett confidently asserted. “Right now, in the situation I’m in, it’s trying to win games here at Ohio State, play well as an offense, and then what that time comes, it comes. Then again, do I have a say in that? No. In spring ball or whenever it may be, it’s still trying to play my best and let coach Herman and coach Meyer have that on their shoulders because that’s what they’re paid to do.”
Barrett's confidence and seeming "I'm supposed to be here" attitude is a big reason why the Ohio State Buckeyes kicked a potential lost season to the curb and have a chance to take over the mantle of Big Ten favorites with a win on Saturday over the Michigan State Spartans in East Lansing.
If anyone can do it at this point, it is a calm, collected Barrett who seems unfazed by both the pressures and expectations of playing starting quarterback at Ohio State.
