With Ohio State taking on Michigan State at the same time as Alabama took on LSU, most neutrals expected the SEC game to be the one with the offensive fireworks...but Ohio State's J.T. Barrett decided to flip the script in the Buckeye's most impressive victory of the year.
Turning Point:
Barrett iced the game with his third touchdown pass of the day early in the fourth quarter. The 7-yard strike to Dontre Wilson put the Buckeyes up 42-24, and they put a ribbon on the game with an insurance touchdown from Ezekiel Elliott five minutes later.
Ohio State MVP:
While Elliott had a hugely impressive performance, this one was all about J.T. Barrett. Plenty of fans thought their season was over when Braxton Miller went down early in the year and Barrett stepped in, but the freshman from Texas racked up five touchdowns and 386 total yards of offense against one of the most loaded defenses in the nation tonight. The headlines will be his tomorrow, and even Michigan State fans will have to admit he deserves them.
Michigan State MVP:
Running back Jeremy Langford was a threat every time he touched the ball, and he picked up 137 yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries. His performance will be a bright spot in a game the Spartans would like to forget quickly.
What's Next?
The Buckeyes, back from the dead after their early loss to Virginia Tech, can expect find themselves back in the top 10 tomorrow with a playoff berth a real possibility. The Spartans will now have to turn their attention to games against Maryland, Rutgers, and Penn State - even though they're effectively out of the playoff picture, a Big 10 title can still be theirs if other results go their way.
