Buckeyes Football News: Ohio State Looking To Strengthen Football Schedule, Targets?

In this Buckeyes football news and rumors update, the Ohio State Buckeyes and their athletic department are looking to strengthen the team's football schedule over the next several years in order to put themselves in prime position for berths in the newly-implemented College Football Playoff.

Per Bill Rabinowitz of the Columbus Dispatch,Ohio State executive associate athletic director (and football scheduler) Mitch Jarmond "said two years ago that it was the program’s strategy to schedule a top-10 opponent, a top-30 opponent, a top-50 opponent and then a lesser one for its fourth nonconference game."

However, after Ohio State's announcement of a home-and-home series with Notre Dame in 2022 and 2023, it seems that the recently-instituted playoff system is forcing Jarmond's hand in pushing the scheduling envelope even further.

Furthermore, with Texas already scheduled as an opponent for those two seasons as well, Jarmond dismissed the notion that they would scrap the home-and-home with the Longhorns after signing up to face the Irish.

“This is what we want,” he said, via Rabinowitz's article on Sunday.

“We want to schedule stronger.”
