This coming Saturday's game at the Michigan State Spartans was certainly on the Ohio State Buckeyes' minds as soon as the clock hit zero on the team's 55-14 thrashing of the Illinois Fighting Illini.
However, OSU's coaches and players remained focused on the task at hand during the game, saving their thoughts about the battle of Big Ten heavyweights for after they polished off the Illini.
“I want to play right now, honestly,” linebacker Darron Lee said, via Bill Rabinowitz of the Columbus Dispatch. “I can’t wait until Saturday.”
Lee redshirted as a freshman, therefore he wasn't on the field for the Buckeyes' 34-24 loss to Michigan State in the Big Ten title game last season. However, with that loss snapping a 24-game winning streak under Urban Meyer, Lee still felt the sting watching it at home.
“It hurt a lot,” he said. “We feel that these guys took something from us.”
With Michigan State being lauded as a College Football Playoff contender by most NCAA experts, Ohio State has a chance to take something away from the Spartans themselves on Saturday while boosting their own profile in the eyes of the committee.
