The Ohio State Buckeyes came in at #3 in the initial College Football Playoff rankings, and also somehow dropped to #2 in this week's AP Poll. What's going on here? Here's 3 Reasons Why Ohio State Is The REAL College Football Playoff #1.
3. Potency
Ezekiel Elliott is the most consistent running back in the nation, posting 14 straight games of 100 yards rushing or more. Joey Bosa keys an Ohio State defense which always seems to cement itself down the stretch of games. JT Barrett and/or Cardale Jones have all the tools to turn this offense loose and opposing defense on their head. The caliber of talent assembled in Columbus is unmatched. The quality of coaching under Urban Meyer is also unmatched. He's the only coach in NCAA history with more than two 20-game winning streaks to his credit. He has four.
Why isn't OSU #1 again?!?
2. Pedigree
We know what this Buckeyes team can do at full strength when the competition gets tougher and the stakes get higher. We have no clue how teams like Clemson and Notre Dame are going to handle the pressure when things ramp up a bit. We want the best teams with the proven pedigree to win it all at the top of the rankings. We want OSU at #1 because they DESERVE it.
1. Consistency
Ohio State has college football's longest active win streak at 22 games. They've tied 1992-95 Florida State for the longest in-conference winning streak at 29. College football voters tend to overthink, knocking worthy teams down a peg by ignoring recent history in favor of the latest flavors of the week. OSU is the defending national champion. They're #1 until a team beats them and proves they're not.
