The College Football Playoff isn't over yet, but it's clear the semifinals weren't as good as last year. Ratings were down 16 percent, in large part because of the choice to play the games on New Year's Eve. The quality of the games didn't help either, especially Alabama's blowout of Michigan State. You can argue the Ohio State Buckeyes should have been in the College Football Playoff and it's clear the playoff could have used the Buckeyes this season. Here are 3 Reasons Why The CFP Would Have Been WAY Better With Ohio State:
3. Ohio State Could Have Won
The Buckeyes had one bad game and it cost them a chance at playing for the College Football Playoff. After OSU destroyed Notre Dame and Michigan in the final two games, it's clear the Buckeyes are one of the four best teams in the nation. Sure, Notre Dame was banged up, but they nearly beat Clemson earlier this year. Had Ohio State made the playoff, they would have had a great shot at winning back-to-back championships. This team is really, really good and it's a shame that the loss to MSU cost them a playoff spot. The presence of Ohio State (in lieu of Michigan State) would have added another true championship contender and that would have made the CFP better.
2. More Fun
Michigan State is a talented team, but few would describe their offense as "fun." The same goes for Alabama, a team Colin Cowherd called "boring." After watching Ohio State run all over Notre Dame, there's no doubt the OSU offense is much more exciting to watch than Michigan State's. That's not meant as a knock on Michigan State or Alabama, but rather praise of Ohio State. The fans love to watch scoring and shootouts. That's something Ohio State would have provided.

1. No Blowout
The worst part of the College Football Playoff, aside from foolishly putting the game on New Year's Eve, was watching Alabama just destroy Michigan State. Alabama fans enjoyed that, but the rest of the college football world didn't care much for it. The Crimson Tide just completely shut down the Spartans, and that doesn't make for exciting football. If Ohio State were playing instead of Michigan State, the Buckeyes wouldn't have suffered the same type of blowout. The Spartans had a bad matchup against Alabama, but we all saw what happened when OSU and Bama played last year. Pitting Ohio State against Alabama in the College Football Playoff would have prevented a blow out like the one we saw in the Cotton Bowl. That alone would have made the CFP way better.
