AKRON — The Zips were locked, loaded and ready to fire.
The Bobcats, meanwhile, brought too many blanks to their shootout for the Mid-American Conference East Division title.
Akron made a MAC record-tying 20 3-pointers and overwhelmed Ohio, 91-76, inside James A. Rhodes Arena on Tuesday. The Zips knew they were aiming at a MAC regular-season championship, and a No. 1 seed for the MAC Tournament, with a win.
And Akron’s aim was true.
The Zips (23-7, 12-5 MAC) won the regular-season title with a historic long-range assault. The 20 made 3-pointers set a new program record and tied the all-time MAC mark.
