The marathon had 400 people signed up to run, and of those, about 355 people showed up to participate. That’s not counting numerous other people who cheered them on, said organizer Michael Owen. Owen serves as director of the Southeastern Ohio Trail Runners nonprofit group, which puts on five trail runs every year. The next trail run will be the Pawpaw 4-Miler, set for Sept. 15 at the Ohio Pawpaw Festival.
Jonathan Bernard, owner of the Ohio Valley Running Company on Station Street in Athens, which sponsored the event, said that the Thunderbunny race sold out roughly two and a half months ago.
