The Bobcats got a big blast, and Savannah Jo Dorsey worked out of a big jam, as the Ohio University softball team opened conference play with a 5-2 victory over Western Michigan at the Ohio Softball Field on Friday.
The Bobcats (18-8, 1-0 Mid-American Conference) moved to 10 games over .500 with the victory. The three-game series continues Saturday with a doubleheader scheduled for 1 p.m.
Ohio snapped a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the fifth. Taylor Saxton and Deanna Cole reached on infield hits, and Mikayla Cooper followed with a three-run home run to straight-away center to make it 5-2.
