It wasn’t a play J.D. Sprague will want inserted into a highlight reel.
With Tarell Basham coming hard off the edge, Sprague pump-faked to get the defensive end off his feet and then delivered a pass toward a wide receiver in the right flat.
Two practice segments later, Sprague hummed an on-point bullet to wideout Brendan Cope on a short slant route. The pass was on target, ahead of the receiver, and the play broke big.
Sprague, Ohio’s fifth-year senior quarterback, had plenty of highs and lows in his first practice in eight months.
“It’s good to be back with my teammates, running plays and not watching,” Sprague said, after the Ohio University football team opened its 2016 fall camp with an afternoon practice inside Peden Stadium on Thursday.
