Jaaron Simmons couldn’t be stopped Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center as Ohio’s fearless point guard willed the Bobcats to a remarkable 85-70 victory over the Akron Zips, who previously had been undefeated in Mid-American Conference play.
Simmons took over in the game’s final minutes to finish with 38 points on 10 of 16 shooting while making all five of his three-point attempts with 10 rebounds and five assists. He also went 13 of 16 from the free-throw line in what was arguably the most inspiring individual performance the Convo has seen in recent memory.
“I’ve sensed something different about [Simmons] since Tony [Antonio Campbell] was ruled out,” Ohio coach Saul Phillips said after the game.
