In a year when the team didn’t reach expectations, Ohio junior Rudy Rott still managed to make an impression.
The first baseman was named the 2018 Mid-American Conference Baseball Player of the Year by the conference on Tuesday.
It was the first such honor for Rott, who joined former Bobcats Marc Krauss (2009) and Mitch Longo (2015) as the only Ohio players to receive the MAC Player of the Year Award.
Rott, a 5-foot-10, 210-pounder from Holmen, Wisconsin, was the driving force in the middle of the Ohio lineup. He finished 2018 with 140 total bases, which was the highest total in the MAC, ranked 17th in the nation this season, and tied for 10th-most in a single season in Bobcat history.
