Technically, Mitch Longo has one more year of eligibility to play Division I NCAA baseball.
His decision on whether or not to return to the Ohio Bobcats after three standout seasons became a lot easier on Saturday, however.
Longo was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 14th round (422nd overall) on the final day of the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft. Longo, a native of Mayfield in Cuyahoga County, was essentially drafted by his hometown team.
He is expected to sign a professional contract and begin playing in the minor leagues this summer.
“It’s a dream come true,” said Longo, in a release issued by Ohio University.
