Quinton Maxwell’s first career start at quarterback for the Ohio Bobcats wasn’t pretty, but it proved to be just enough for the ’Cats to escape Dix Stadium with a 14-10 victory over the Kent State Golden Flashes on Saturday.
Ohio head coach Frank Solich waited to announce his starting quarterback against Kent State until a half hour before kickoff. Maxwell, a redshirt freshman, replaced fifth-year senior quarterback Greg Windham but the change made little difference in uplifting Ohio’s offense, which has been mostly inept since the start of conference play.
Maxwell completed 11-19 passes for only 127 yards with no touchdowns and one interception while Windham didn’t see the field.
