He had just left, or been asked to leave depending on who you believe, one of the winningest Division I college basketball programs in the country. He was a top 100 high school recruit, had success in his role on the floor during his one season of playing time, and yet was still hearing ‘No’ after ‘No’ as he searched for another program to join.
On August 2, 2014, Kaminski announced via Twitter he was leaving the Michigan State men’s basketball program. There was a flurry of initial interest from more than a dozen schools.
Then two days later, Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo released a statement saying Kaminski wasn’t transferring because he wanted to, but because Izzo had dismissed him from the program for “repeatedly failed to meet the necessary obligations” of being a Spartan.
