In an era of multi-million-dollar players who won’t sign autographs without being paid for it, high-security mega-stadiums, and other trappings of big business, it might seem as if baseball is no longer the hometown game it was only a generation or so ago.
But the traditional flavor of the sport is available, right here in Athens, as the Southern Ohio Copperheads get in to their 15th season of play at Bob Wren Stadium on the Ohio University campus. The season is not off to the best start – the team has a record of 2-4 after a loss Friday evening to the 6-0 Hamilton Joes – but it’s still early.
