Irons was selected in the third round, No. 22 overall, of the 2019 Canadian Football League Draft on Thursday night by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. With the pick, Irons became the first Bobcat selected in the 68-year history of the CFL Draft.
Irons, a Canadian native from Chilliwack, British Columbia, felt good about his chances in the draft in late March when he was in Athens to take part in Ohio’s Pro Day showcase.
“I think there’s five or six teams potentially interested,” Irons said then, about the eight-team CFL. “I think I’m on the table for a lot of CFL teams, which I’m excited about.
