AKRON — A two-out rally and light’s out relief pitching helped the Ohio University softball team open the 2016 Mid-American Conference Tournament on the right foot.
Madison Claytor belted a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth, and Savannah Jo Dorsey threw 3 2/3 innings of shutout relief, as Ohio topped Akron 3-1 in an opening round game Wednesday at Firestone Stadium.
With the win, the Bobcats advance to the winner’s bracket semifinals. Ohio, the No. 3 seed, will face second-seeded Miami (31-21) at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The RedHawks knocked off Toledo, 5-2, on Wednesday.
