Iona used a 10-0 run to take control, and then took out Ohio — 79-75 — Saturday afternoon at the Hynes Center. The Bobcats (5-2) led 70-65 with less than six minutes left but couldn’t close the deal against the Gaels (6-3).
“I’m more disappointed in how we lost,” Ohio head coach Saul Phillips said in a postgame radio interview.
The Bobcats will be kicking themselves about this one for a while. Ohio missed four of seven free throws over the final 11 minutes, including the front-ends of two one-and-ones. The Bobcats, who led by five with 7:27 left after Doug Taylor’s jumper, then had a stretch of eight straight possessions without a score.
