The 2017 season was not kind to the Raiders, and quite frankly, the season was a huge disappointment. Going from a potential Super Bowl contender to having the same record as the San Francisco 49ers who started the season 0-9, is quite a step back.
Aside from the offense having a deplorable season, the defense did the offense no favors. They were described in terms such as “serviceable,” and phrases like “not good, but not bad”. The Raiders secondary, and defense as a whole, was neither, they were atrocious.
I’m all for optimism, but there is not much to be optimistic about with that group.
