On January 19, 2016, Oakland Raiders Owner Mark Davis met with Las Vegas based billionaire Sheldon Adelson for the first time. 423 days later, on March 27, 2017, NFL Owners made a nearly unanimous vote to allow the Raiders to relocate to Vegas. Before the initial meeting and between the final vote of approval, it was a rollercoaster of ups and downs, twists and turns.
Since the relocation was granted, there has not been a clear timeline on when the Raiders would actually leave Oakland and head to their new stadium in Vegas. The common line of thinking was that 2020 would be the year, which would leave a one-year gap between when the team’s lease expires in Oakland and when the new stadium will be ready.
