New York Mets outfielder Yoenis Céspedes has opted out of the 2020 season, Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen announced on Sunday.
Céspedes, who spent three seasons with the A's, did not report to Truist Park prior to the team’s game Sunday against the Atlanta Braves. He also was not there by the time the game began at the scheduled 1:10 p.m. ET first pitch.
When he didn't show up to the park, the Mets sent security to Céspedes' room where they found it empty, according to Van Wagenen. His belongings had been gone, and through his agent informed the team he would be opting out of the season.
