X-ray negative on Casilla's left shoulder

OAKLAND -- A day after being struck by a sharply hit foul ball during Saturday's win over the Yankees, A's closer Santiago Casilla relayed encouraging news about his non-throwing shoulder.

"I feel better," Casilla said through team interpreter Juan Dorado. "Obviously it's still a little swollen, but it doesn't affect my pitching or anything like that. It's just a little tight."

Casilla deemed himself good to go, but A's manager Bob Melvin was unsure of the right-hander's availability for Sunday's series finale.

The veteran pitcher, who underwent an X-ray that came back negative, said Sunday he often stands in the spot he occupied in the dugout when hit and that the incident likely won't scare him away from doing so again.
