The activities on the diamond seemed a world away as the South American watched the latest reports from his anguished homeland in the wake of a mounting humanitarian crisis that has erupted in clashes in the cities and border crossings.
“Oh my God,” Barreto said in Spanish. “What is happening to my Venezuela?”
