The baseball world lost a legend Wednesday with Willie McCovey's death at age 80.

The slugger spent 19 of his 22 major league seasons with the Giants, but not many people remember he actually had a brief stint with the A's.

In 1976, Oakland purchased McCovey's contract from the San Diego Padres near the end of the season. He played 11 games for the A's, recording five hits in 24 at-bats, before returning to the Giants the following season.

The A's released a statement upon the news of McCovey's death.
