MESA, Ariz. — After his first bullpen session of the spring, A’s pitcher Sean Manaea discussed some of the tips he received from Hall of Fame pitcher Randy Johnson.
A’s manager revealed Thursday that Manaea and top pitching prospect A.J. Puk received a special visit from Johnson during last year’s spring training.
“Him walking out was a really cool moment. We were talking about his slider, how he gripped it. Just being consistent day in and day out. Having that bulldog mentality. BoMel was telling the story of how he would be so afraid to change the music whatever day Randy was throwing just because of how he was,” Manaea said.
