SEATTLE — Chris Smith wasn’t the pitcher of record in his first major league start, but the 36-year-old held his own against a potent Seattle offense.
The right-hander, who became the oldest pitcher in A’s history to make his first big league start, got a no decision against the Mariners.
Smith allowed three earned runs and six hits and struck out four in six innings.
He left the game after 97 pitches with the score tied at 3-3.
Designated hitter Ryon Healy’s RBI double to center field with two outs in the top of the ninth inning gave Oakland a 4-3 victory over Seattle.
