Trevor Plouffe takes over as A’s newest third baseman

Infielder Trevor Plouffe, who agreed to a one-year, $5.25 million deal with the A’s last week, officially joined the team Wednesday and he will man third base for the club, becoming the fourth man to handle the position since Josh Donaldson was traded two winters ago.

Plouffe is ready for the big foul ground at the Coliseum, though he knows he needs to get more familiar with the bullpen mound down the third-base line. “I know there are memes and GIFs of me falling over that mound,” Plouffe said Wednesday.

Plouffe, 30, played in only 84 games last season because of injuries and he missed the final month of the season with strained oblique and intercostal (ribcage) muscles.
