OAKLAND — Getting players back from injury is always good news, especially for an A’s club that has used 12 different starting pitchers this season. But with the quality performance of several pitchers this season, the club finds itself in a peculiar situation.
Edwin Jackson, Trevor Cahill, and Sean Manaea were slotted as the first three starters coming out of the All-Star break against the Giants, with Brett Anderson and Frankie Montas likely to round out the rotation Monday and Tuesday in Texas. This leaves Chris Bassitt and Daniel Mengden, two pitchers who have pitched well in the big leagues this season, as odd men out currently in the minors.
