Baseball ejections frequently come with huge theatrics, but not so for the A’s Craig Gentry Sunday in Arlington, Texas.
Gentry was one of many of the A’s who wasn’t crazy about home plate umpire Andy Fletcher’s strike zone, and Gentry wasn’t even in the lineup.
On one particularly displeasing call, a third strike against Sam Fuld to end the fourth inning, Gentry spoke up.
He and manager Bob Melvin both said there was no profanity involved, but that didn’t cut it with Fletcher, who ejected Gentry. Melvin spent the entire between-innings time before the bottom of the fourth inning talking with Fletcher near the third base line.
