Stephen Piscotty rib injury “a little worse,” out for foreseeable future

MESA, Ariz. — Oakland A’s outfielder Stephen Piscotty is going to be shutdown for the foreseeable future, manager Bob Melvin said on Friday.

Piscotty had an MRI on Thursday on his ribs, where he sustained an intercostal strain, and things got “a little worse.” Piscotty hasn’t played a Cactus League game this season due to his sore ribs. Piscotty told the Mercury News he might have sustained it taking too many swings in the cages during the offseason.

“The more you do this, the more you realize how important depth is,” Melvin said.
