OAKLAND — Sonny Gray struck out Shane Peterson in the seventh inning and took a slow walk to the dugout as he departed to standing ovation at the Coliseum. Could it have been his last start for the A’s?
Gray, who continues to be the most coveted pitcher on the trade market, is having one of the best stretches of his career. He entered Wednesday’s game with a 1.33 ERA in his last four starts. That stretch continued with another impressive performance.
Gray held the Tampa Bay Rays to two runs in 6 1/3 innings as the A’s avoided the sweep with a 7-2 victory, marking his fifth consecutive start in which he has thrown at least six innings while allowing two runs or fewer.
