HOUSTON - Slugger Khris Davis said Saturday at Minute Maid Park that he would welcome a contract extension with the A’s.
“I want to be an Oakland Athletic,” Davis said. “I think I fit in well here. I like the organization, I like the coaching staff, I like my teammates.”
Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic reported Friday that the team is in talks with Davis about a one-year extension that would eliminate the designated hitter’s final year of arbitration. Davis, 30, is earning $10.5 million this year and could make more $15 million or more next year, especially considering his production: the A’s designated hitter has hit 92 homers since joining the A’s in 2016, the most in baseball during that time.
