Manaea’s 9th

Sean Manaea didn’t just throw a no-hitter Saturday, the seventh in Oakland history and the A’s first since Dallas Braden’s perfect game in 2010.

Manaea did so against a Red Sox team that came into the Coliseum winners of 17 of their previous 18 games and averaging more than six runs a game. Better still, the A’s left-hander had no idea for a good chunk of the game that he even had a no-no going.

Pehaps that’s why Manaea, whose lack of focus and killer instinct occasionally affected him in previous years, looked as calm as he could be in the later stages of the A’s 3-0 victory while dominating baseball’s hottest team.
