Sean Manaea didn’t just throw a no-hitter Saturday, the seventh in Oakland history and the A’s first since Dallas Braden’s perfect game in 2010.
Manaea did so against a Red Sox team that came into the Coliseum on Saturday winners of 17 of their previous 18 games and averaging more than six runs a game.
And Manaea, whose lack of focus and killer instinct occasionally affected him in previous years, looked as calm as he could be in dominating baseball’s hottest team, even snacking in the later stages of the A’s 3-0 victory.
The celebration at the Coliseum was delayed briefly - Andrew Benintendi (more on him later) walked with two outs in the ninth.
