The A’s scheduled Saturday starter, Sean Manaea, was scratched three and a half hours before the game with upper-back tightness, and Raul Alcantara took his place against Texas.
Manaea has had a similar issue twice before, including once earlier this season. It’s considered minor, and Manaea said he hopes to make his final start of the season next week. Manaea is scheduled to pitch Thursday at Texas.
Manaea said he felt it Friday while playing catch and came in Saturday and it was still bothering me. “I”m going to do what I can to get back on the mound,” he said.
