BOSTON — Four people were tossed from Fenway Park Wednesday night after hanging a banner over the Green Monster that read “Racism is as American as baseball,” according to reports.
The black-and-white sign was unfurled during the fourth inning of the game between the Athletics and the Red Sox. The crowd booed until security arrived a few minutes later to reel in the sign.
The foursome was ejected because there is a rule against hanging signs, according to the Boston Globe.
“During the fourth inning of tonight’s game, four fans unfurled a banner over the left field wall in violation of the club’s policy prohibiting signs of any kind to be hung or affixed to the ballpark,” Red Sox spokesman Zineb Curran confirmed in a statement to NBC.
