Pedro Martinez sees himself in A’s Jharel Cotton

KANSAS CITY – To hear Pedro Martinez tell it, watching the A’s Jharel Cotton pitch is like looking in the mirror.

Following the seven two-hit scoreless innings Cotton threw in a 2-0 win over the Royals Monday, Martinez took his Hall of Fame street cred to talk on MLB Network about Cotton and the way he pitches. Martinez came back Monday with some tweets underscoring the similarities.

Both are slight, 5-foot-11 right-handers. Both were signed by the Dodgers. Cotton wears the same No. 45 that Martinez made famous. The Dodgers traded both of them, Cotton coming to the A’s at the trade deadline last year in the deal that sent Rich Hill and Josh Reddick to Los Angeles.
