On Wednesday, Elon Musk tweeted that his electric car company Tesla would no longer accept Bitcoin as a payment method because Bitcoin is bad for the environment. His tweet caught even the most loyal of Musk-heads by surprise, and many were not happy with him.

Musk is right that Bitcoin is bad for the environment. It's also implausible he finally figured out on May 12, 2021, that Bitcoin could be a net negative during a long-visible global climate emergency.
