The A’s lost a one-run game Monday for just the third time in September, which isn’t bad.
What is bad is that the A’s have lost one-run games 34 times this season while winning just 18. The season’s first five months seemed like every loss was by one run.
So to lose 5-4 to the Angels on David Murphy’s pinch-hit walkoff single with the bases loaded Monday after coming from 5-0 down to lose 5-4 to the Giants Sunday in Oakland continues to have a bad taste to it.
Right fielder Josh Reddick said the other day that if Oakland had won half of the one-run games they’d lost, the club would be in contention.
