As three-for-one trades go, you can’t do much better than the Giants did four days ago — unless you do what the A’s did Wednesday.
Getting Rickey Henderson for Luis Polonia, Eric Plunk and Greg Cadaret is a stone-cold steal, on paper. On paper, it’s a better deal than the Giants getting Steve Bedrosian for Dennis Cook, Terry Mulholland and Charlie Hayes. One of those three former Giants conceivably could develop into a superstar; two of them are left-handed starting pitchers.
