Oakland to try again to buy Coliseum shares before A’s

OAKLAND — Days after filing a lawsuit to stop Alameda County from selling its Coliseum complex ownership shares to the Oakland A’s and hours before the start of the A’s first game of the playoffs, the city announced it will return to the negotiating table to try to purchase the county’s shares itself.

The city — which co-owns the Coliseum complex — has been trying to buy the county’s share since 2015, but talks broke in February when the county presented a term sheet to city staff that would guide a potential sale and the city never responded, Alameda County Board of Supervisors President Richard Valle said in August.
