OAKLAND — The A’s are expected to call up No. 1 prospect Jesús Luzardo, MLB.com and the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Luzardo should join the team for a key four-game series in Houston.
The left-handed pitching prospect is expected to be a centerpiece starter in the A’s future rotation, but could pitch out of the bullpen in Oakland due to a crowded, quasi-six-man rotation.
Luzardo’s last outing with the Las Vegas Aviators came in a PCL playoff game. He struck out seven and gave up a home run in 5.2 innings. He has a 3.19 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 31 innings with the Aviators this year.
