OAKLAND — Blake Treinen was reinstated from the injured list on Wednesday afternoon and the hope was to fold the A’s closer into the mix with a low-pressure return.
That plan fell through. With limited options available out of the bullpen and the game tied in the 12th, Melvin called for his turbo sinkerballer to take the mound. While his sinker did look healthy, he struggled to locate it and surrendered the game-winning rally. The Twins defeated the A’s 4-3. Oakland’s four-game win streak was snapped as they dropped to 47-40.
Things were rosier before the late-night collapse.
