The regular season ended on Labor Day for most minor league teams, but not for the Oakland Athletics’ Double-A squad. The Midland Rockhounds made the playoffs, after posting a 48-22 record in the second half.
On Saturday night, the ‘Hounds headed into play up 2-1 in their series against the Corpus Christi Hooks, who belong to the Houston Astros’ farm system. A 4-1 win sent Midland on to the Texas League Championship series, where they will take on the Royals’ Southern Arkansas Naturals beginning on Tuesday.
Midland’s postseason, however, has been a costly one for the A’s strongest minor league team.
